Craven-Martin began in 2020 and was completed with federal status in 2021.

HOW WE STARTED
Work in Greece began primarily as a result of a research study conducted by Kim Parrish, a doctoral candidate from Mississippi State University, in collaboration with Hellenic University in Athens, Greece in 2017 on the island of Chios, Greece. The research led to a vision for restorative measure among the migrating and asylum-seeking population. In specific, the asylum-seeking population in Greece on the mainland and the islands migrate from Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Syria, Kurdistan, Congo, Sudan, Tunisia, and a few other nations.
Simultaneously, Kim’s brother Jim Martin was serving in his third overseas deployment, which was located at Al Udeid Airbase in Qatar. Jim was completing his Doctor of Nursing Practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
While serving as a health care provider in Al Udeid, Jim learned and personally experienced the tremendous positive effect of water therapy during a timely encounter with a fellow soldier, who was his patient.
The end result of learning how his patient mitigated the stresses of combat with the use of lap swimming led Jim to envisioning the development of the Craven-Martin Foundation. The initiative of Through The Water was adopted to serve all military members.
